There was a Musician who passed away a few years back named Mark Heard. He was kind of a pioneer of good songwriting and I believe somehow related to Jason Harrod & Brian Funck, and Bill Malloney of the Vigilantes of Love. These bands are not really mass marketed but you can (and should) buy their work from sites like Paste Music.
