[ Govt. Housing ]

I am very interested in the Japanese building process. The system is know as 'scrap-n- build'. Close to our home is an old Government housing complex that I really like to walk around in and take pictures. I feel the sense of community as I see small homemade gardens built on common ground, and kids playing in the small parks. The buildings are simple 'modern' style. Some of them are 5 stories but some are only 2 stories. Soon these buildings will be scrapped and a new development will replace it, probably some really ugly houses. A similar group of historic apartments were scrapped to build a mall in the Omotesando district of Tokyo . The mall was designed by Tadao Ando and is called Omotesando Hills. It is quite beautifull with expensive apartments and a roof top garden, but it was at the expense of a historic landmark. (to see photos of Omotesando Hills click on the link in the albums section.)

Before the loss of our local housing complex i felt God was telling me to take some photos to archive the area and communicate the feeling that "someone lives here", with the emphasis on life. Life happens in these places and I tried to communicate that through simple impressions.
