I am limited to basic tools like a hand saw, hammer, drill, and dremel, inexpensive lumber and found objects but i still get the urge to make something useful. These are some of my latest creations. They are really prototypes or experiments to see what can be done with garbage really. The emphasis is on simple, funtional, reuse, recycle, quick, and hopefully acceptable as far as asthetics are concerned. You be the judge.
There are 3 items
A desk that doubles as a primitive "buffet" when we have parties. Simply slide out the removeable leaf. The contents are hidden in the back by our bedroom doors and (which are really a slidable wall). I tried to create it with as few cuts with the saw as possible because I am using a rough cut saw. Its a box on wheels
A simple laptop desk to keep my computer from over heating. The curved wood was found in the trash at an upholstery shop. The curve fits neatly over my legs. The design has references to stone statues found in Japanese gardens
The 3rd item is a cosmetic case for Kaoruko. This was an "inkan" (personal stamp) holder found in the trash. I have included some before and after photos. The case turns on a "lazy susan" type turret. On one side is a small mirror and on the other side are 2 removable clear plastic boxes fro sundeies as well as a small shelf for a contact lens case. The 2 to sides form a triangle and in between is a small removable tray for more small items. It also has a handle on top. The design was influenced by the "kagami" boxes or mirror boxes designed to save space.
