These little statues represent stillborn or aborted babies. Read on it gets really interesting. This particular type was create din 1960 despite the belief that they are ancient. This was taken on our trip to Kamakura. Kamakura is like Kyoto. Lots of history and temples. It was the place where the military run government started. Only 50 minutes from our house. I believe the common right wing view of nationalism and military dominance was birthed here. The little statues are called JIZOU BOSATSU.
